DAWIA and FAC-C Certifications
Civilian agency and Department of Defense (DoD) professional contracting personnel are linked by more than classification in the GS-1102 series; they both now take the same path to professional career certification.
ESI’s Equivalency Curriculum
ESI’s Equivalency Curriculum, which is authorized by the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) under their equivalency granting procedures, is designed to help personnel throughout the government keep up with the ever-changing, ever-increasing demands of the acquisition environment.
This powerful set of courses — initially established for DoD’s acquisition workforce — is also particularly vital for civilian agency contracting professionals now that OMB/OFPP and the agencies have adopted the DAU certification requirements as their own under the FAC-C program. DoD employees needing to complete the DAWIA certification training requirements also benefit from our equivalent courses.
The chart below displays the relationship between ESI equivalent courses and DAU’s curriculum. Individuals are eligible to receive DAU Equivalency/FAC-C credit as long as they meet DAU’s standard 80% passing grade requirement on the course exam or the instructor’s evaluation of student performance where an exam is not applicable to the course.

DAWIA / FAC-C Elective Continuing Education Courses
Both the DAWIA and FAC-C certification programs require elective courses for certification qualification and 80 hours of continuing education training every two years to maintain the certification. ESI has more than 40 additional contract management training courses that meet those requirements.
Please note that the DAU course equivalencies were granted based upon specific course materials, delivery agendas and course durations. Therefore, courses that are customized may or may not be eligible for equivalency.
Obtaining Your Formal DAWIA and FAC-C Certification
Once the formal education, career work experience and certification curriculum requirements (DAWIA and FAC-C) are met, DoD employees should visit the DAU Web site for instructions and civilian agency employees should check with their agency’s Acquisition Career Manager for information necessary to apply for certification.
