ESI Survey Results Reveal Need for Sourcing Skills

(ARLINGTON, VA - February 11, 2005) -- ESI International, the leading provider of project management, contract management and business analysis training, held a live Webinar in December entitled "Improving Sourcing Outcomes: The Three Cs of Vendor Management Success." The presentation, which was viewed by more than 1,000 people around the world, was developed to help organizations effectively manage services contracts of all kinds, a practice that has garnered increased attention in the last several years due to the increased outsourcing of business processes.

ESI’s analysis has identified the three Cs of sourcing success as communication, collaboration and competence.

During the Webinar, ESI conducted a survey of participants regarding service contracting practices within their organizations. When asked, "What is the major cause of service contract problems?" 60% said poor requirements definition, 20% said communications problems, 8% said poor scope definition, 8% said poor contract management and 4% said inadequate risk management.

In response to another question during the Webinar, "Of the three Cs of sourcing success, which improvement area would make the biggest difference in your outcomes?" 51% of participants said improved competence, 27% said improved communication and 22% said improved collaboration.

"These survey results offer conclusive evidence of the need for sourcing skills in the marketplace," says John Elsey, President of ESI. "With more companies turning to the outsourcing of key business functions, it has become more difficult than ever to maintain cost, customer satisfaction, project schedules and quality. Improved competency, communication and collaboration are essential for an organization’s continued growth."
