ESI Launches Two New Courses Focused on Earned Value Management

Courses Designed to Help Federal Contracting Officers and Commercial Contractors Better Manage Cost, Schedule and Performance of IT Projects

(ARLINGTON, VA - October 10, 2005) -- ESI International, the leading provider of contract management, project management and business analysis training, announces the launch of Earned Value Management Fundamentals and i>Applied Earned Value Management Systems, in-depth contract management courses for federal integrated procurement teams and government contractors.

In light of reinforced Earned Value Management (EVM) policies from the Office of Management and Budget and the revised Federal Acquisition Regulations, the need for the professional acquisition community to understand the principles of EVM, and accept increased accountability for major Federal Capital asset investments, is higher than ever. Earned Value Management Fundamentals and Applied Earned Value Management Systems will provide the acquisition community with the tools they need to satisfy these more stringent expectations.

Earned Value Management Fundamentals is an introductory, five-day course that familiarizes members of integrated procurement teams, including contracting officers and administrators, programs managers and project managers, to the fundamental concepts of EVM. The course emphasizes the EVM process from project development to execution as related to the Performance Management Baseline (PMB), the Integrated Baseline Review (IBR) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for EVM systems. Through real-world exercises, participants will learn practical processes for managing cost, schedule and performance; acronyms and meanings of EVM-associated vocabulary; program management data elements associated with PMB development; processes and purpose surrounding IBR; and details of the ANSI EVM standard. Defense Acquisition University equivalent for BCF 102 is being sought for this course.

Applied Earned Value Management Systems is an intensive, three-day course that emphasizes the processes related to PMB, IBR and ANSI/Electronic Industries Alliance Standard 748 (ANSI/EIA-748) for EVM systems. This course has been developed for federal members of integrated procurement teams, commercial personnel dealing with EVM on government contracts and commercial contracting personnel dealing with commercial capital asset acquisitions who will be required to calculate and interpret the data used with EVM systems. Participants will gain hands-on knowledge of the EVM processes and metrics, as well as an overview of the process from project development to execution.

"Since the federal government decided that EVM will play a vital role in deciding which IT projects continue and which are re-examined, it is even more vital for acquisition professionals and government contractors to understand and make proper use of EVM," explains John Elsey, president of ESI . "ESI is excited about these courses and is confident that the knowledge imparted will go a long way toward helping the participants and their organizations improve their project and contract performance in order to reach the government's EVM goals."

The courses are open for enrollment now and can be delivered in ESI classrooms or on-site at government and commercial locations.
