ESI International Honored by ASTD For Partnership With HP Services' Project Management Training Initiative
(ARLINGTON, VA - Feb. 18, 2003) --ESI International, the leading provider of project management and contract management training services, was recently awarded an Excellence in Practice Award from the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) for its contributions to HP Services' global project management performance improvement plan. ESI and HP Services received the award for their exemplary partnership in the area of career development for HP Services employees worldwide. ASTD is the world's largest and most respected professional organization for professional development.
"ESI and HP Services have worked together for many years, so we are honored to share such a prestigious award with them," says ESI President Larry Seeley. "With project managers in 160 countries, HP Services was able to leverage the worldwide power ESI offers its clients. HP Services built on the program's success and expanded it to include more than 16,000 professionals around the world. That is, in essence, what ESI has been doing for more than 20 years-helping organizations achieve-and surpass-their performance goals. We couldn't be more proud to have played a part in HP Services' project management training success story."
"People are the number-one asset of HP Services, and we are always looking at the most efficient ways to continue to train and motivate our services professionals," says Ron Kempf, Director, HP Services Project Management Competency Development and Certification. "We offer 250 course sessions annually around the world, and ESI's delivery capability and curriculum are major contributing factors to the success of the program. ESI has brought significant expertise and guidance in helping us design, develop and deliver our project management training program."
The range of options offered by ESI enabled HP Services to offer its project staff a flexible program of solid project management skills training with the option to strengthen business competencies as well. Participants complete selected courses from the core curriculum depending on their background. Then, participants may build on that knowledge with additional ESI courses, such as Rapid Assessment of Troubled Projects, Global Program Management and more. Kempf says that the project management initiative has resulted in 68%-72% of their projects running at or better than budget and has increased margins by as much as 50% in some cases.
Other, less-tangible benefits have come about as part of the HP/ESI partnership. "Our employees recognize and appreciate that they have significant career-development opportunities here, and as a result, they are highly motivated. Being a project manager at HP Services is a position to which people aspire," explains Kempf. "HP Services' commitment to career development has given us a long-term advantage because we save hundreds of thousands of dollars each year on training, recruitment and orientation. Having well-trained project professionals on the job every day gives us a competitive edge in the marketplace, and ESI's project management training program has helped us to achieve that."
