ESI International Offers Advanced Master's Certificate For Project Managers
Curriculum Includes Courses with Computer-Based Simulation Model from Davis & Dean
(ARLINGTON, VA - September 18, 2001) -- ESI International, the leading provider of project management and contract management training services, introduces an Advanced Master's Certificate in Project Management. This new curriculum is based on ESI's Courses for Experienced Project Managers, a special series of courses designed to help professionals meet the demands of today's complex and rapidly changing business environment.
Underscoring ESI's commitment to improving individual and organizational performance, the Courses for Experienced Project Managers address a variety of needs that are common to nearly every project management operation. They include such critical topics as assessing and recovering troubled projects; managing requirements; leveraging risk management; leading project managers and teams; and guiding organizational change. After completing the curriculum of five of these courses in three years, professionals are awarded the Advanced Master's Certificate in Project Management by ESI and The George Washington University, ESI's academic partner.
"We've been working with industry leaders and government organizations for 20 years to help them optimize their organizational effectiveness through expert project management. After developing our Courses for Experienced Project Managers last year, we received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and requests for an expanded program for veteran project managers," says Larry Seeley, ESI President. "We are committed to helping project managers continue their professional development. Through this exciting new course of study and the resulting professional credential -- the Advanced Master's Certificate -- senior managers now have the opportunity to gain a higher level of understanding of the complex principles of project management."
Two of the courses, Leading High-Performing Project Teams and Guiding Organizational Change, employ computer simulations developed by Davis & Dean, a global project management education company. These instructional tools require participants to practice new skills as they learn them. The instructor acts as a guide to participants, teaching them the fundamentals of the course and then allowing the participants to form groups to manage "virtual" real-life project situations. Each team has its own work area, and the computer program sets up a virtual work environment that creates an entire office scenario with existing projects and people with specific skills, abilities and shortcomings.
"The program is often referred to as an expert system," explains George Davis, co-founder of Davis & Dean. "The simulation is organized in such a way that the computer presents a number of dilemmas and challenges in a unique way -- even the guides don't know in what order the program will present the various challenges. Our simulations allow the participants to manage a project virtually, repeating the processes they've learned many times. It's as close to making real decisions as managers can get without actually being in a true business setting."
